Calculate in integer cents
Monetary strings become integer cents for additions and subtractions. Display formatting happens after calculation, keeping binary floating-point arithmetic out of the totals.
BUSINESS APPLICATION ENGINEERING
From scattered records to a clear picture.
An inventory record is only useful if its costs and supporting documents stay connected. Acquisition, repair work, parts that have not been ordered, and an eventual sale all mean different things to the totals.
A private application for a small vehicle-inventory operation and its partners.
I built an application that links vehicle acquisition to work, parts, documents, and sale outcomes. VIN lookup and browser OCR assist intake, while human review remains part of confirming the record.
Acquisition, work & sale
THE WORKFLOW
Record the vehicle and purchase. Use VIN lookup or OCR to assist entry, then review the fields.
Keep jobs, parts, documents, and media attached to the vehicle.
Include ordered parts and recorded work in investment; keep unordered parts explicit.
Record a sale to calculate realized profit. Unsold inventory remains invested capital.
ENGINEERING DECISIONS
Monetary strings become integer cents for additions and subtractions. Display formatting happens after calculation, keeping binary floating-point arithmetic out of the totals.
An unordered part is not yet an expense in the investment total. An unsold vehicle does not yet have realized profit. These rules live in domain services.
VIN lookup has a bounded request time. OCR proposes characters for review; manual entry remains available. Media handling checks file content and confines stored-file operations.
CURRENT SCOPE
The application and its domain services are implemented and continue in development. Accounting and validation have focused automated coverage; end-to-end database, media, and workflow verification remains to be completed.
Six accounting/validation tests passed during the October 2026 source review. That result applies to the tested business-logic subset, not overall application readiness. The illustration uses a fictitious vehicle and exact synthetic amounts; it is not a screenshot of live inventory.
APPLYING THE APPROACH
This is the kind of application I can discuss for inventory, reporting, document handling, or an internal workflow that has outgrown separate spreadsheets.
